1.What is Gizduino?


Gizduino is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega8L, ATmega88, ATmega168, ATmega328, ATmega164, ATmega324, ATmega644, ATmega1281. The standard gizDuino which uses ATmega168 and ATmega328 has 20 digital I/Os 6 of them are ADCs and 8 PWM that still can be used as digital I/O.

It is an open source computing platform based on simple input/output board and the use of standard programming language. Gizduino is programmed using the IDE (Integrated Development Environment).

It is ideal for beginner programmers and hobbyist because it is very easy to use wherein it is a multi platform environment that can run on Windows, MAC OS, and Linux. It is programmable via USB cable to make it more accessible and allows communicating with the computer.

Answer(s): Add the patch files for gizDuino board list.

Answer(s): use the arduino 1.0.1 from e-gizmo. install the patch files and choose arduino(mini) with atmega168.

3.Is that Ok to Connect the external power supply while the gizduino with USB v3.2 also connected?

A: the new board does the power selection automatically.

4.Using Arduino-MACOSx: Having problem with uploading using Gizduino mini Atmega168 board, because the Gizduino boards are not on the list of board, instead you are using Arduino mini ATmega168?

A: if you having trouble the patch files for the gizduino was not installed in OSx. Just try manually patching the files in OSx as what has been done in windows.

5. Where can I get drivers for Gizduino v2.1? Using Window XP?

A: In Google Profilic PL2303.

6. To interface MATLAB and Gizduino X.Is that ok?

A: YES, Its ok!

7.Gizduino X: Is that ok to add an I/O pins in (JP8) as Digital or Analog I/O?

A: YES, it can be used as additional I/O

8. Is the Serial Monitor not working when you use the Gizduino USB mini(ATmega)?

A: Yes!, that is the limitation of gizduino usb mini, it has no serial monitor.

A: I think SYB-46 will do. Better to use a usb extender just to make you it simple.

18. Where can I pin to connect the positive(+) 9 volts battery in gizduino usb mini?

A: dont ever connect 9v to the usb mini.if your load is small in terms of current consumption(100mA or less) then the usb will provide the required 5V.However if you need an external power, a regulated 5v supply is needed to be connected to the 5v pin.The usb mini dont have an onboard regulator unlike thier full sized cousin(gizduino,gizduino+ and gizduinox) thus it doesnt have a VIN pin.

19. Will 4 AA batteries work instead? Can I connect it to the +5V pin to power the arduino where one ultrasonic sensor (input) and a vibration motor (output) is conneted?

A: you can use 9v battery but you provide a 5v regulator like an7805.If you dont follow this route, you can use 3 AA batteries(4.5 volts total) or 4 Rechargeable AA(4.8v) total.

20. Is that ok to use resistor if I use the 9 volts on breadboard?

A: if you are planning to use a voltage divider, still its dangerous because the load resistance offered by the gizduino varies from time to time depending upon its current state of operation, safest is still to use a 5V voltage regulator.

21.What is the good external source for gizduino mini if not connected to pC?

A: any regulated 5V will do.

22. What board is equivalent to gizduino rev. 3.1 in IDE?

A: use the IDE provided by e-gizmo(use the patch if you use the IDE downloaded from arduino.cc) then choose gizduino(mini) with atmega 168/328.

23. What is serial monitor?

A:part of the Arduino IDE as a feedback monitor. Similar to the console in ordinary computer programming language. Remember the classic “hello world” program. In Embeded systems we don’t have the console but for arduino we use the serial monitor.

24. Serial Monitor features in different kind of gizduino variants?

A: the gisduino usb mini is the cheapest gizduino but it came with only one limitation--absence of the serial monitor.Other gizduino variants have the serial monitor functionality.The minis however will require the usb to serial converter in order to communicate with the serail monitor.But of course you can have serail monitor enabled for the usb mini by using the usb to uart kit.

25. How many SPI port and UART devices can I connect to gizduino X?

A: I think more than 1 yung uart and spi sa gizduinox.but you can use more uarts if you want using softserail in the ordinary gizduino.

A: Uart uses the harware uart of arduino(pin0 and pin1) whilee suart is the software implementation of UART and thus use pin 2 and pin 3

Are the functions same? A: yup. but in gizduino if you use hardware uart then you have to use the serial library while if you use suart , youll need the softserial library.

26. Is there any way that I could upload Firmata in my gizduino atmega 168?

Getting this error: StandardFirmata:484:error: ‘class FirmataClass’ has no member named ‘write’

A: Get the latest Firmata sketch. You might have the old one.

31. Error: avrdude: stk500_getsync( ): not insync: resp=0x00 when iam uploading the program, but the Board and Serial Port is correct!

A: maybe you have a broken pl2303 chip.try connecting the tx(pin1) and rx(pin0) pin and start serial monitor.if you send a character it should apper in the recieve field.if not then your pl2303 needs replacing.

32. Is the gizduino 328 can make a sound “beep” when there is an intruder?

A: its possible with arduino depends entirely on your programming and troubleshooting skills. Is There another materials to used? Or in the program to make it “beep”?

A: You need sensors and beep hardware also the gizduino is just the brain that will control the interaction of this additional materials.

33. How do you interface of gizduino to visual basic?

A:use the com object in VB.

How? We are making a parking system in which the proximity sensor will send dat to gizduino then the gizduino will send the data to visual basi 6.0.

A: your research is more comm. Object in VB, it is a serial communication to PC side then UART(serial communications) in Arduino.

34. Do I need two microcontroller to use the through beam sensor?

A: it depends on your application

A: Theres a problem with the boothloader firmware. Try to reload the boothloader.

A: YES, the arduino uno program in gizduino 328 version.

A: YES!

A: individual programs each . run them in parallel

A: VB.net is not supported by e-gizmo’s gizduino. In VB 6.0 you can use the mascomm class to communicate with the gizduino serial port.
